The Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies is the place to come for a premier Jewish culture experience in the city. It claims to be the largest Jewish museum between the east and west coasts, and also offers the largest Jewish public library/resource center in the region with its collection of books, videos, periodicals, and music.

The Spertus Institute also is the place for people of all ages and all faiths and origins to come to experience a lifetime of learning.

Founded in 1924, the Spertus Institute today also offers accredited graduate degree programs, a stunning museum, extensive collection in the Asher Library, in addition to a commanding variety of public programs, exhibitions, and resources.

The Spertus Museum's permanent collection helps to acquaint visitors with the beauty and customs of Jewish religion and culture around the world. The Rosenbaum ARTiFACT Center encourages hands-on learning for families and school groups, especially the 32-foot-hill/dig site where participants can unearth replicas of real archaeological treasures.

The Spertus Institute also has the nation's first permanent museum exhibition on the Holocaust. The Zell Holocaust Memorial uses its vast Holocaust-related resources to help adults and children to interpret the Holocaust more completely.

Established in 1987, the Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Center is a unique collaboration between the Spertus Institute and the Chicago Catholic Archdiocese to help promote interfaith theological and academic dialogue.

The Bariff Shop offers a wide selection of traditional and contemporary design objects, books, fine arts, jewelry, and limited edition artwork, in addition to posters and catalogs created especially for Spertus Museum exhibitions. The shop even maintains a bridal registry! For further information, call (312) 322-1740 in the Chicago-land area or use their
